One windy Friday found us wandering aimlessly around Valencia St. Youngsters in hipster clothes and perfectly curated ensemble of accessories and friends passed us by. Feeling the breeze dismantling our disarrayed hair to begin with, we decided to find refuge on a very low-key, long-time local favorite sushi restaurant, We Be Sushi. It was a way for us to just while away the windiest whispers on our weary wicked wisteria of wacky wanderings. Under the broad-leafed maples' shaking green fingers, as it was just past 4:00 p.m., too late for lunch and too early for dinner, we ordered a snack of hamachi collars, unagi sushi, hamachi maki sushi and the Rainbow roll which is typically a California roll topped with salmon, tuna, albacore, avocado and flying fish eggs. A pint of draft Sapporo and tap water for me rounded up our arrangement.

We Be Sushi did not disappoint on all counts! The hamachi collars melted in our mouths as we savored each fleshy deliciousness. The dashi dip which complemented the grilled fish like a Bonnie to its Clyde was perfectly flavored with just the right amount of saltiness and tang. This collar ultimately passed with flying colors! I ordered a bowl of rice to go with this tapa dish. Next, the roll came with the freshest salmon, tuna and albacore and slices of firm and green avocados of which as if they were just picked from a nearby tree! And the nigiri sushis-- both unagi and yellowtail, also concluded and satisfied our hankering for a calm and peaceful gustatory oasis from the urban gale. We then remembered that the strawberry mochi flier caught our eyes of begin with, so we sampled it as well and felt that it was the best finale for our snack.

And so, we posed a question to ourselves, what more can we ask for? It was one of those times when even the weather made us super-aware of why San Francisco is the place to be— here, now, then and tomorrow again.
